Samsung Profits Hurt By Smartphone Price Cuts

Samsung is one of the biggest names in the tech industry. While it has maintained impressive sales figures over the last few years, and releases of the company have always been much anticipated, the Korean tech giant has not been able to reach the peak sales figures it had a couple of years back. Samsung's sales have enjoyed a boost this year.

According to an Engadget report, Samsung has earned more than $6.46 billion in the third quarter of this year. This is a big boost from last year's $3.8 billion. The figure, however, still has not matched the 2013 peak, when Samsung reached over $9 billion. The Korean company also announced price cuts of its newer flagships, like the Samsung Galaxy S6.

So while sales of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the S6 Edge have continued to be strong, the price drops have not enabled Samsung to peak again. The company has also been coming up with more midrange devices alongside its flagships. Samsung appears to be more keen in maintaining the company's multibillion earnings over the recent months, rather than reclaiming its 2013 peak.

Nevertheless, as long as Samsung continues to sell, which it still does, the company still secures one of the top spots in the international gadgets market. In June, Samsung has been reported to cut the price of the Galaxy S6, after sales have fallen short of expectations. A Wall Street Journal reported at that time that the smartphone price decline was caused by increasing competition from China and India.

If the slow growth of the Samsung smartphone market continues, fewer models are expected to be released in the coming year. Apart from its smartphones, the company is focusing on boosting sales for its other products, like TVs, smart bands and tablets, which the company has released over the past few months.
