Counter-Strike 1.6 Now Playable On Android

The first-person shooter game Counter-Strike 1.6 can now be played on Android phones thanks to the ingenuity of one guy named Alibek Omarov.

People who play or have played the game know Counter-Strike is best played on PC because it is a first person shooter game. According to Slash Gear, Counter-Strike started as a Half-Life mod and then Valve acquired it and marketed it as a standalone game. Counter-Strike 1.6 was the last version released before Valve adapted Counter-Strike to the platform it now runs on.

Counter-Strike players can just imagine how difficult it would have been to re-map keyboard controls to a touch screen version. On the other hand, Omarov has hurdled over that obstacle by slapping the screen with translucent virtual buttons that mimic the same function that physical keyboards would do. At the moment, hooking up a controller to the Android device has yet to tested.

For those who are interested in trying Counter-Strike 1.6 on an Android device, take note that it cannot simply be downloaded from the Google App Store. One must need to download the APK, according to 9 to 5 Google. Moving on, one will then need to find the APK and carefully follow the developer's instructions for installation.

However, it does not end there because the Android user would need to have a CS 1.6 downloaded in his or her own Steam account and it must be installed on your PC or Mac computers. Further making things a little more complicated, there is one step in the installation that will require the user to copy the Steam installation on to the 'SDCard' folder on your Android device.

Nevertheless, it is something new to an old game that may be worth a try. On the other hand, for those who do not want to go through all that trouble but are still curious to know how Counter-Strike 1.6 would look like there is a video that one can check on YouTube.
