Zika virus is now an epidemic that "terrorizes" some 58 countries in the world. The epidemic has been there for months and it victimized people, men and women and especially the not yet conceived human beings are greatly affected by this virus. Since its worldwide widespread, the World Health Organization has given statement about precautionary measures, healthcare reminders as well as ways and means to control the epidemic.
Brazil is one of the countries that Zika virus is victimizing. People are so much aware that the Olympics is happening in the mentioned country. That makes it so horrible to think that millions of people will be coming to Rio De Janiero in Brazil for the Olympics with this existing epidemic.
According to a web post via The Guardian, a Canadian Professor named Amir Attaran, whose research areas include population health and global development policy, calls for a postponement of the upcoming Rio Olympics or at least moving the said event. His statement says that allowing people to come to Brazil for the said event makes greater risks for the spreading of the virus.
In addition to the post, Rio de Janeiro has recorded 26,000 suspected Zika cases -- the highest among all the places in Brazil. Moreover, Attaman said that going ahead with the games is both foolish and unethical. He believes that it is not what the Olympics stand for.
Olympics will be held on the Aug. 5 to Sep. 18, 2016. The virus has become a great threat to the Rio Olympics 2016.
According to World Health Organization website, athletes and visitors in Brazil are encouraged to follow the travel advice provided by the World Health Organization. In addition, they have to protect themselves from mosquito bites by using repellents.
They have to select air-conditioned room accommodation. They are also encouraged not to go to impoverished and overcrowded areas. For more WHO reminders, read here. Pregnant women are also not encouraged to travel to areas with documented Zika cases.
