It seems "Dark Souls 3" has undergone some series of updates and whatnots. First, a patch for the game has been removed, as it was known to be the cause behind the freezing issues. Lastly, players have seem to crack the mystery that runs deep in the Poise stat.
According to Gamespot, the developers of the game detached a patch (which was supposed to address several hacking issues in the PC version) temporarily. It was found out that the said "Dark Souls 3" patch happens to bring forth the freezing issues players experienced while playing the titular action role-playing video game.
The patch was intended to go after hackers on the PC version who had the ability to exploit the cheat detection system of the game. By doing so, they were able to impose temporary bans on some players during the multiplayer campaign.
Sure, the "Dark Souls 3" patch was able to resolve the issue; however, freezing subsequently emerged -- something that was deemed as an accidental side effect. FromSoftware has already issued a statement, guaranteeing that victims of these exploitations will not be penalized any longer.
Meanwhile, one feature that "Dark Souls 3" players deem as a glitch is the Poise stat. It is reportedly not working unlike in the past games. Simply put, it has no significant effect on their characters.
Fortunately, as reported by VG247, some gamers were able to crack the mystery behind it. In fact, a Reddit user by the name of Back_like_Flint came up with a very acceptable theory. He pointed out that when the character roll, the game's animation tends to require a certain quantity of frames in order to complete.
He theorizes that whenever damage is taken, the number of available iFrames during the succeeding rolls is greatly reduced. Basically, the higher the Poise stat of a player, the lower the number of iFrames will be lost once damaged is taken.
With that in mind, it is safe to say that the new "Dark Souls 3" Poise stat is completely different from the one in the previous installments. In the past, when it is high, a player's attack will not be easily interrupted.
As of this writing, FromSoftware continues to deny the alleged Poise stat malfunction. That, albeit the obvious evidences from gamers, it is actually working as intended.
