For quite some time lots of speculations regarding Nintendo's much anticipated NX console have been doing the rounds online. Eventually, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima has broken the silence and offered some insight on the company's upcoming device.
Although the company announced the Nintendo NX in April, Kimishima has eventually shed some light on the device only recently in an interview with Japanese publication Asahi. According to the Nintendo chief, the much awaited device, which will be a brand new concept, is slated for worldwide release in March 2017, Nintendo Everything quoted the Japanese publication.
Responding to a query on the company's decision to release the Nintendo NX in March 2017, Kimishima said that the idea behind the forthcoming release of the console in March 2017 was consistent with Nintendo's schedule for game development. According to the company boss, when a gamer finishes playing the launch titles for Nintendo NX, they will want to purchase new games during spring, summer break and Christmas time.
Substantiating the company's release schedule, Kimishima added that this follows the logic that releasing the Nintendo NX is not dependent on the fact that the console's hardware is ready, but making sure that the even the software lineup is also in place.
Earlier reports, speculated that the Nintendo NX console will be much more powerful compared to Sony's PlayStation 4. The new device is expected to accommodate an improved GPU, superior CPU and enhanced memory capacity to boot.
When Kimishima was asked about his thoughts on the next-gen Nintendo NX console, he said, "It's something very new. The hardware, the software lineup, all of it is something I'd like to play for the first time myself."
In reply to a question whether the release of the device will prove to be a hurdle and will result in a decline in the sales of Nintendo consoles in 2016, Kimishima said that while the sales of Wii U may slow down following the release of Nintendo NX, the 3DS will benefit from the much awaited "Pokemon" in autumn. Hence, he feels that the NX will not have a negative impact on the sale of 3DS.
