Social networking platform, Twitter, is taking big tweaks on its character count limit on its post as users will be free to write longer tweets. For years, Twitter has kept its 23 and 24 characters for its links and photos.
Posted photos and links, which were include on the 140-character limit on tweets, will no longer be counted by Twitter, Bloomberg reported. The major change will take effect on the next two weeks, according to the person who has knowledge to the said changes. It also wishes to remain anonymous since it has not been officially announces to the public.
Currently, Twitter users are struggling to fit links, with the platform's 23 characters limit, even the social networking site cut it short. It is also a part of the social media company's bigger plan, granting users more freedom on using the site. In January, Jack Dorsey, Twitter's Chief Executive officer, stated that they are finding better ways to show content on Twitter and the tests would come from user's utilization on the site's service.
"We've spent a lot of time observing what people are doing on Twitter, and we see them taking screenshots of text and tweeting it," Dorsey wrote. "Instead, what if that text was actually text? Text that could be searched, text that could be highlighted, and that's more utility and power," he stated on the Verge reports.
To put it simply, Dorsey states that they would begin to reconsider its firm guidelines about character limit points as well as its structure. All things considered, the 140 number limit was originally from the time when Twitter was a way to send text messages. This most up-to-date change resembles a promising beginning of the new Twitter.
While changing its 140-character limit rule for its links and photos, many users will be urged to add more media on their tweets. Twitter has not made comments regarding the matter.
