Yahoo CEO, Scott Thompson, is in the hot seat with his job and reputation on the line after it has been found out that his resume is disturbingly inaccurate. In Thompson's corporate bio, he claims to have a degree in Computer Science. However, such is not the case.
Thompson was called in to be the new CEO at Yahoo after former CEO Carol Bartz was fired from the company in 2011. Thompson stepped in and has been guiding the company since January 2012. His plans to change Yahoo fortunes will be short lived as he is not expected to be a part of Yahoo come this week.
For ten years Scott Thompson claimed on his resume to have a degree in Computer Science without anyone finding out. Sadly for him, he's all out of luck. Before coming to Yahoo, Thompson was president at PayPal for quite some time. During his time there, his resume had the same discrepancy, shutting out any claims that it could have been a mistake. There is no doubt Thompson knew about this and the fact that if caught, his reputation would be tarnished, yet he chose to continue.
Being a Fortune 500 company, there is no way Yahoo can afford to let Thompson stay, even if for some odd reason he had no idea his credentials were inaccurate. A man who aspires to be a CEO cannot afford to make such mistakes, and doing so for ten years for that matter. Thompson need to be ousted as soon as possible before causes more damage to Yahoo and himself.
Scott Thompson isn't the only CEO who got caught in this manner. Six years ago, RadioShack CEO David Edmondson resigned after it was revealed that he didn't possess two degrees he said he had. Another to fall by the wayside is Jeffrey Papows, Lotus CEO back in 2000. He claimed to have had a Ph.D. from Pepperdine University. Turned out he was lying.
After Scott Thompson is fired from his job, the big question is - who will replace him? Yahoo needs a leader, and it needs one fast.
