In a world of lifeproof phone cases and waterproof devices, Xiaomi's gadgets are not water resistant. Despite the push for this almost mandatory feature, the company has stayed cemented in their decision not to make their devices so.
As reported by Times Of India, Xiaomi's founder, Lin Jun, has explained why. According to him, Xiaomi devices, even when slightly damaged, will lead to weaker water protection. The other, more economical reason, is the cost users will bear upon installation of this feature. Jun shares that they can definitely add the feature, but only if their clients are willing to pay 20% to 30% more for their handheld devices.
Since Xiaomi has built its name as a cheaper alternative to more mainstream competition, this may be a smart move. And even without water resistancy, Xiaomi devices have held strongly in the market - most recently, its Redmi 3X.
Both the Xiaomi Redmi 3X and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active were released this month, and both are touchscreen devices.
According to NDTV Gadgets, the Xiaomi Redmi 3X has a battery capacity of 4100 mAh and has a screen that is 5 inches big, with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels. It is run by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and 2GGB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. It also provides users the ability to add more storage through a microSD card.
The rear camera of the Redmi 3X is 12 megapixels and the front camera is 5 megapixels. It is available in both silver and gold.
Meanwhile, the Samsung S7 can withstand being dunked under water for some time, with its battery of 4000mAh. The screen is 5.1 inches big and has a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. It is run by a more powerful processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820. It sports 4GB of RAM with 32GB of internal storage. Should users wish, there is also the option to expand storage space with a microSD.
The rear camera of the S7 is slightly lower at 12 megapixels, but the front camera is the same at 5 megapixels. The Samsung S7 comes in camo green and titanium grey.
