There are plenty of gadgets nowadays that give users the chance to e-read books, but none of them have thus far compared to Amazon's Kindle line. They are light-weight, fuss free, offer no distractions and are good for any type of lighting. But Amazon currently has four in the market - the Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Voyage and the Kindle Oasis - each offering some upgrade from the original. However, with a difference of almost $100 dollars from the Voyage, is the Oasis worth the splurge?
Released in October 2014, the Kindle Voyage is the only one to sport an adaptive front light. According to Know Your Mobile, this feature automatically adjusts the lighting in the device in such a way that makes it most natural - like reading a tangible book. Of course, users also have the opportunity to personally adjust the lighting as they wish.Meanwhile, the Kindle Oasis boats of built-in light, which has 60% more LEDs. This increase is meant to stabilize consistency of screen brightness, as well as widen its range.
The design of the Voyage is much like its predecessors - though thinner, it is straight like a regular tablet at 7.6mm all around. On the other hand, the Kindle Oasis has a tapered design with a hand grip built on one side. The hand grip is meant to feel like the spine of a physical book. This should make it easier to hold the device, as the center of gravity is shifted. At its thickest, the Oasis is 8.5mm and 3.4mm at its thinnest.
Both models offer 4GB of storage for reading material and come with Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi with 3G options. The Kindle Voyage reportedly lasts for 6 weeks, if used for just 30 minutes a day. Batterylife is the same for the Oasis, except when attached to the battery cover. This batter cover reportedly allows for months of usage.
According to Time, the largest difference is really just that the Kindle Oasis is 30% thinner and 20% lighter than the Kindle Voyage. Also, the leather charging cover and its brighter screen. Although, Amazon does boast of a different e-reading experience because of its new tapered design.
The Kindly Oasis sells for $289.99 while the Kindle Oasis sells for $199.99.
