Contrary to what was previously believed, PS4 Neo is actually happening. Yes, Sony itself has confirmed the very existence of the console. For now, people know that it is specifically designed for contents of VR and 4K gaming. Here is everything fans should know from the get-go.
According to Alphr, PS4 Neo is not built for the ultimate purpose of being a next-gen of gaming, despite being a new console. Instead, it will serve and exist alongside the current PS4. Hence it is more like a PS 4.5 in a general sense of things.
It should be noted, however, that the tech giant's very own President and Group CEO Andrew House confirmed the coming of a "high-end PS4." Nonetheless, it has been coined as PS4 Neo in the market since time immemorial.
During the recently concluded Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), people found out that not only Sony is up to the challenge of making a VR-and-4K supported console that is the aforementioned PS4 Neo. Microsoft, on the other hand, is also on its way, with Project Scorpio being served on the table.
It has been believed that both upcoming consoles are pretty much powerful in their own ways. However, PS4 Neo actually falls a little inch behind. Sony's forthcoming next-gen console is said to introduce a 4.2 TFLOPs processing power. Meanwhile, Microsoft's Project Scorpio is believed to be capable of delivering a process power of 6 TFLOPs.
Furthermore, GamingBolt notes that the existence of PS4 Neo does not cement Sony's future plans of offering iterative upgrades, say, every few years or so. It is being developed this time for the reasons of the console having all the potentials and resources.
Nonetheless, the company is still expected to maintain a one-console market. This, in one way or another, confirms that PS4 Neo is simply PS4.5 in the making.
