E3’s Most Anticipated Reveals: Top 10 Games

E3 is less than two weeks away, and plenty of games are set to be re-revealed - and revealed - whether releasing in 2012 or 2013. All of the games here are likely to appear at E3 2012, apart from Grand Theft Auto V as Rockstar typically doesn't show at E3.

Metro: Last Light is the sequel to Metro 2033, the gritty first-person shooter that set the bar for graphical performance on the PC. Despite some AI issues and claims the game lacked optimization, the game was well-received and continues to be a hit. It's sequel has been kept quiet by the developers, but E3 could be the stage to unleash more footage ahead of the Q1 2013 release date.

#9:

Hitman: Absolution is the follow-up fans have been waiting for in the series. From the trailers and gameplay footage shown off thus far, the title seems to have a stealth vibe with quick time event sequences sprinkled throughout. Of course, the ability to go guns blazing is also possible.

#8:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. The next annual entry in the Call of Duty franchise brings the franchise back to Treyarch, who decided to follow up 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops with a sequel. However, the game takes the franchise into the future as we see an older Woods and son of Alex Mason. The game looks to be introducing future weapons and tech, and undoubtedly more footage - of the campaign or multiplayer - will be seen at E3 ahead of the November 2012 release.

#7:

Resident Evil 6 is bringing multiple gameplay styles together for the first time in the franchise, with the action-packed focus of Resident Evil 5 and the survival horror approach of Resident Evil 4. Gameplay impressions from Web site's such as Giant Bomb said the game has more of a thriller approach, ensuring players will be crouching behind the sofa while playing.

#6:

The Last of Us is Naughty Dog's next project after finishing up the Uncharted series, despite initially considering a Jak and Daxter reboot where the characters would resemble humans. The Last of Us is a zombie-fighting survival horror game, but early gameplay impressions look to push the boundaries of the PlayStation 3 once again and develop the relationship between the two protagonists - Ellie and Joel.

#5:

Assassin's Creed 3 takes place during the American Revolution, where you take the role of a native American assassin who doesn't seem to share a particular allegiance. Gameplay footage looks to take cues from the Metal Gear Solid Series, allowing players to catch foes from above while standing on trees. A modern setting should also mean modern weapons, ensuring players aren't confined to using swords and daggers.

#4:

Borderlands 2. Gearbox's sequel to the cell-shaded first-person shooter Borderlands looks to be more of the same, while increasing quest variety and the scope of the game. Gearbox has been open with footage of the game, and the U.S. September 18 release date should mean more footage will arrive at E3.

#3:

The Wii U. Nintendo will be the first console manufacturer to release a next-gen console, with the Wii U arriving during 2012. A release date and price will likely be shown at Nintendo's re-reveal of the console on June 5, along with first- and third-party titles. Perhaps Miyamoto and co. will tease a new Mario and Zelda title in high definition.

#2:

Tomb Raider is releasing in 2013, but the reboot looks to be taking notes from Uncharted with a gritty setting as a 21-year-old Lara Croft aims to survive. The gameplay footage at E3 2011 showed Lara escaping while a cave was collapsing around her, which looked tense.

#1:

Halo 4 is the next mainline entry into the long-running sci-fi shooter franchise, in the "Reclaimer" saga. The game is being developed by 343 Industries after Bungie's departure from the series, and will bring a sandbox approach to missions according to the developers along with a heavily modified graphics engine. Plenty of changes are in multiplayer, both old and new such as the returning Battle Rifle and armor abilities respectively, as the developers look to bring a fresh approach to a franchise that has largely been the same since its debut in 2001.
