Samsung is one of the leaders in the smartphone industry. Arguably, the Korean tech giant is leading the way for all other Android devices.
Now, Samsung is making another innovation in the industry by incorporating an iris scanner in the upcoming Galaxy Note 7. The new feature is meant to increase the security of the device.
The question is how easy the new feature will be to maneuver and if it is even necessary. After all, the current fingerprint sensor found in most devices, particularly the iPhone 6S, has stood the test of recent time.
Samsung Galaxy Note 7's Iris Scanner
Android Pit claims that the new iris scanner will be faster than the current sensor found in most devices. It should work when the user holds the Galaxy Note 7 at arm's length and looking into two circles on the display. Supposedly, the iris scanner will be ready for use with third party applications eventually, particularly those with a payment scheme.
The other specs of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 are stellar though. These include a 5.7 inch display, a 12 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front camera. Internal storage is at 64GB, but is expandable through a microSD card.
The device will run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 6GB or RAM. The battery is also quite notable at 4200mAh. The Note 7 is expected to price at $940, which is higher than the Galaxy S7. It will be launched on August 2.
iPhone 6S's Thumbprint Scanner
A sensor being incorporated into payment methods is already present in the iPhone 6S. According to BGR, a lot of third party application developers have also taken to using the fingerprint sensor as a means to log in to their apps.
Furthermore, the sensor is much quicker on the iPhone 6S as opposed to its predecessors. In fact, it occurs almost instantly. The feature results in a much quicker and smoother iOS experience.
Whether or not the iris scanner from Samsung will be just as smooth and efficient as the iPhone 6S thumbprint scanner is unknown at this point.
