Boston Celtics Willing to Trade Philadelphia 76ers Jahlil Okafor If Price’s Right

Boston Celtics Danny Ainge is reportedly talking to the Philadelphia 76ers for the possible trade of Jahlil Okafor. The trade will only go through if both agree on the price and conditions.

If the ongoing rumors are true, then the Okafor trade is highly unlikely, according to Philly.com. The 76ers value their center player very much. Critics have pointed out that handing him to the Celtics is basically giving one of their best man to the enemy.

Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics, Ainge in particular is wary of Okafor. He is talented but the Celtics president is unprepared to give up something substantial that would make the Philadelphia team give him up.

Okafor has figured in several incidents during his stay in Boston. He was involved in at least two fist fights and was apprehended by the Philadelphia police for over speeding. The Celtics management routinely gives lower than expected salaries to players who have problems with their temper, or with the police and the like. This is seen as an act of cautiousness on the part of Ainge and Celtics management.

So far, this strategy has worked well with the Boston Celtics. Observers would recall former Celtics Delonte West who received far less money in comparison to his basketball skills. A weapons charge in Maryland caused West's suspension from at least 10 games during his 2010-2011 season with the Boston Celtics. West only signed a one year contract with Ainge.

Since the Celtics and the 76ers have opposing stance, an Okafor trade is not possible at the moment until one team changes its mind or backs down.

The 76ers must make a trade though, either Okafor or any of their other power players. This dilemma might work in favor of the Boston team. However, the Sixers would not take a trade that will put them at a disadvantage, especially with the Celtics.
