During the 98th PGA Championship yesterday, Jordan Spieth almost got penalized at the game and he was so close to losing it. However, despite the strict rules grounded on PGA, he was able to go on with the game without any penalties.
In Springfield, New Jersey on July 29, Jordan Spieth made an unpredicted move as he reached his seventh tee box. This was the part when it all got complicated and had to be settled in more or less ten minutes.
Spieth's tee shot landed on a puddle on a cart path, which seemed to be a make-or-break moment for the game, as reported by USA Today. After ten minutes of talking to the officials as he weighed all his options, he was given a go signal to settle and take a shot three feet from where the shot originally landed on.
He was entitled to just take the ball out of the puddle and drop it on the path. This was to Spieth's advantage since it could allow him to take a shot on green land. The fans that stood nearby Spieth were as nervous as they watched the ball travelling in different directions since the area had scattered puddles and bumps in it, according to the New York Times.
According to standard rules, Spieth must make sure that he is not standing on casual water. However, it has been noticed that his left foot was in the water when he took the shot. By the end of the observation, his foot only hovered over the water and was not touching it. This verdict just saved Spieth from a two-shot penalty.
Spieth said that he would not have taken the shot if he was not given a go signal by the game's official. However, he did admit to having been in one of the most complicated scenarios in his career to date.
