Apple's September Event To Change The Game For The iPhone 7 And iPhone 8

No one is expecting the iPhone 7 to smash sales records or even improve much on the current iPhone 6S. The main reason for this is that the iPhone will celebrate its first 10th anniversary in the smartphone industry next year. Part of the expected celebration is undoubtedly a new design.

The possible issue with that, as noted by Business Insider, is that 2016 is Apple's scheduled time for a revamped handheld. Since 2008, the Cupertino-based company has been working on a two-year clock that has told the public when exactly to expect a relatively grand redesign.

So if the September event does confirm that Apple is holding out a new look for the iPhone 8 instead of the impending iPhone 7, it could indicate an entirely new future for Apple. That is, how and when its dedicated customers will be making purchases.

Of course, there is also the possibility that this missed year will be a one-time occurrence only. Apple could very well return to the two-year schedule after the 2017 unit.

There is, however, at least one ever-surfacing rumor regarding the iPhone 7. That is, that Apple is ditching the standard 3.5mm audio port. Instead, the iPhone 7 is expected to come with either Bluetooth earphones or one that connects to the Lightning port.

Whichever way the tech giant decides to go, it needs to do something soon in order to bounce back from its current slump. As Irish Times notes, Apple's second quarter numbers were about 10 million fewer than the previous year's. And while Q3 2016 figures met the company's expectations, it is still a far cry from when Apple first launched the iPhone in 2007.

The road Apple is on is not as smooth as it once was and that is obvious. Samsung, one of Apple's largest competitors, is cashing in on this decline in demand. Samsung's second-quarter sales beat its own expectations.
