It seems as if the feud between Apple and Android over patent issues is never ending.
The latest report reveals that the Cupertino-based tech giant has filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission claiming that 29 new HTC phones are infringing upon U.S. Patent No. 5,946,647 and thus they should be banned in the states.
The "data tapping" patent titled System and method for performing an action on a structure in computer-generated data describes "system and method causes a computer to detect and perform actions on structures identified in computer data. The system provides an analyzer server, an application program interface, a user interface and an action processor."
AppleInsider explains that the patent lets a system automatically detect and identify phone numbers, e-mail addresses and hyperlinks.
Apple first filed its complaint against the Taiwanese company in 2010. Apple's press release that time quoted Steve Jobs saying "We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We've decided to do something about it."
He further added "We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours."
Although the accused company has addressed the issue of patent infringing promptly, not even a month back HTC new phones were held up at the US customs. And, this time, if prove guilty of stealing Apple patent, 29 new HTC smartphones will also end up with the US customs for review.
