"Dragon Quest" creator Yuji Horii has been back and forth about the compatibility of his next game with the upcoming Nintendo NX. Fortunately, he seems to have reached a final decision and that is that the 11th installment will indeed be playable with the next generation console from Nintendo.
"Dragon Quest" To Debut In The Nintendo NX
According to Polygon, Horii made the revelation in a discussion that included Junichu Masuda and Masahiro Sakurai, who produced the "Pokemon" series and "Super Smash Bros." respectively. Reportedly, Sakurai simply asked, "The 11th installment in the series will be released simultaneously on Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation 4, and including NX it's coming out on three platforms, right?"
To this, Horii agreed. He then admitted that making the game compatible to such different sets of hardware would be difficult. However, he shared that it would have to be done in order to avoid spoilers. "Spoilers will emerge if we release one version earlier," he said.
While the launch of the game is still unconfirmed at this point, it is certain that it will come after the launch of the Nintendo NX. That is, after March 2017.
The Nintendo NX - Release Date And Design
According to PC Advisor, the new console might be revealed at the Tokyo Games Show this September 15, 2016. However, it will actually be available in the market by March of next year.
There are not much confirmed details on the console's specs at this point, but it is expected to be an innovator in the gaming industry. Reportedly, the Nintendo NX can be both a portable console and an in-house player.
After all, Nintendo called the upcoming NX as a "brand new concept." The late Satoru Iwata, who was the previous president of Nintendo, also previously mentioned that the company would take a risk like this eventually. "If you only expand upon existing hardware, it's dull," he said.
He added, "In some shape or form, we're always thinking about how we want to surprise players as well as our desire to change each person's video gaming life."
