World of Warcraft Legion Expansion: Blizzard Hopes Demon Hunters Can Bring Back Players

World of Warcraft Legion expansion is set for August 30. Blizzard Entertainment hopes that this upcoming installment will be enough to convince former players to return to WoW.

The Legion expansion is the sixth expansion of the WoW massive multiplayer game. The new installment promises new features including the introduction of the Demon Hunters. Blizzard Entertainment has set a storyline that will pit these fallen Elves against the Burning Legion who have return to Azeroth to set free the Dark Titan.

Demon Hunters and the Broken Isles

Demon Hunters are classified as Hero Class who possessed powerful abilities like the Spectral Sight, Metamorphosis and Unrivaled Mobility. Demon Hunters will also be given powerful weapons such as a Paladin sword called Ashbringer. A new continent called the Broken Isles will also be included in the upcoming expansion. Players can level up their Demon Hunter character using a new leveling system unique to the Broken Isles.

Blizzard Wants Former WoW Players Back

World of Warcraft has been going on for more than a decade and has millions of players all over the world. It is said that more than half of the annual income of Blizzard came from WoW, according to Fortune. However, that revenue rapidly decreased as of 2015 brought about by the huge exodus of players away from WoW.

The game developer hopes that the latest expansion will bring back these former subscribers back to the fold. The number of decrease may have been so alarming that Blizzard now refused to disclose the current number of subscribers left playing WoW.

The last Blizzard report mentioned that there are around 5 million WoW players. This represents less than half of the subscribers the game had six years ago. There have been sharp increases in WoW players every time an expansion is release. But the numbers decreased further after the novelty of the expansion wore off.
