Will Microsoft Unveil Windows 8-Powered 'iPad Killer' at Next Week's Special Event?

Microsoft is organizing a big, mysterious event in Los Angeles next week. Not surprisingly, there are reports making rounds in the Internet that the software giant could reveal its very own tablet, which may give the iPad a run for its money.

According to some reports, Microsoft is planning to unveil its own tablet that might be able to take on the iPad. Ina Fried of AllThingsD reported that Microsoft has decided to plan its own hardware as well as the software in order to take on Apple's iPad. The report cited some unnamed sources.

Another report by The Wrap made a similar suggestion.

Microsoft hasn't revealed anything so far but it has promised a "major" announcement in Los Angeles. The exact venue of the event has also not yet been disclosed. Microsoft usually depends on PC makers like Acer, Dell, and Lenovo to make devices packed with Windows operating system. Some of these companies have announced its Windows 8 packed tablets at the recent concluded Computex event.

If the latest reports are really true, things can get awkward not only for Apple, but also between Microsoft and its hardware partners who showed off different Windows 8-powered tablets at the Computex. Most of these devices are expected to be available in the market after the official release of Windows 8.
