Stephen Amell who played as a billionaire playboy/vigilante Oliver Queen in the hit TV series "Arrow," posted a blushing emoji along with a trailer of what seems to be a Filipino copycat of his show.
"Arrow" follows the story of a presumed dead billionaire named Oliver Queen who returned home to Starling City to reunite with his family. Unknown to them, Oliver Queen spends his nights fighting wealthy criminals as a green hooded vigilante named Green Arrow.
The video that Amell posted on his page was from the network's official page. It was posted as a promotion for a new TV series that will soon reach the Philippines airwaves titled "Alyas Robin Hood."
Fans were very quick to react upon seeing the video and most of Stephen Amell's Filipino fans were embarrassed by it. One fan even commented on Facebook, "On behalf of your fans in the PH... I would like to apologize. There is truly a lack of originality in our network programming. It truly is embarrassing that this has come to your attention and even more embarrassing that now the world sees the lack in originality and risk in Philippine TV. It really is a shame that they did this. It shows lazy writers and lazy concept makers..."
Amell was reported to have answered, "I mean... I have no idea what it is and frankly, I don't care - at all - either way, but boy oh boy does it look familiar." In one of the questions asked of him regarding the video on Facebook.
The show's head writer released a statement regarding this issue and mentioned that "Alyas Robin Hood" is an homage to the English folktale "Robin Hood." She further mentioned that their series is going to be a modern retelling of the story but set in the Philippines.
For the fans who would want to know if there are similarities between the two shows, you can start watching "Arrow" Season 5 on October 5 at 8 PM ET on The CW.
