As of this writing, Pokemon Go is still yet to be beaten from being the highest rated game for mobile, despite the decline of the excitement that initially was an outbreak. Niantic Labs is currently working on some spanking new features for Pokemon Go, of course to keep the hype up. To add to the hype-keeping campaign, the company has pulled another trick up its sleeves.
Even though Niantic Labs is not part of the Google umbrella anymore, the 2 companies have agreed to partner up and offer Pokemon Go trainers a pretty nifty new feature - yes it involves google maps!
All those Pokemon hunting effort and no scrap-book for it, don't you wish you can reminisce your Pokemon Go adventure for the day before going to sleep?
Well, what is it?
Google Maps now allows its active users to manage and update their activity via the Timeline feature. A new dropdown: "catching Pokemon," can now be selected and posted on the Pokemon Trainer's timeline, this would indicate that they are playing Pokemon Go, so to speak. This new Google Maps feature, which went past our noses, was first - although at Reddit, you aren't sure you're the first one - discovered by Redditor GoldLeader272.
How do you turn it on then?
As reported by Android Police, what you need to do to access it is:
Step 1: go to "Your timeline" within the app
Step 2: tap on travel icon and then edit it to "catching Pokemon,"
Other than that, there's nothing exciting Pokemon-related stuff going on inside Google Maps. So please don't expect Google Maps to provide help in catching Pokemon, or forecast the next spawn point.
There is this trick though that allows Google Maps to improve your Pokemon Go app's performance:
Niantic labs, on the other hand, will be launching a much awaited Pokemon Go update, which might include features for trading Pokemon plus a new buddy system. The company will hopefully fix its Pokemon tracking feature as well, although it's not clear when this would happen.
