Apple Watch 2 To Run Pokemon Go Plus App; Niantic's Game Just Got A Tad Bit Cooler

While majority of the world is focusing on the changes that Apple made to the iPhone 7, there are those marveling at the innovations and improvements the Cupertino-based company made to its Apple Watch 2. In true Apple fashion, it has completely innovated what a smartwatch can do, without forgetting just what its true function is.

Apple Watch 2 Brings "Pokemon Go" To Wearables

What is arguably the most exciting addition to the Apple Watch 2 is the ability to play "Pokemon Go" on the device. According to Ars Technica, a special build of the game, called "Pokemon Go Plus" was built specifically for the wearable and will launch later this month. None other than John Hanke, Niantic's CEO, made the announcement during Apple's September event.

It must be noted, however, that players and wearers must still have their phones nearby in order for the app to work. Theoretically, it only eases the egg hatching feature of the game, as well as looking for Pokemon. Players will be notified via the Apple Watch 2 if a Pokemon is nearby, but the iPhone is still needed to catch the monster.

The interface does, however, allow users to interact with Pokestops. It will also show how much XP is needed before leveling up.

The More Expected Improvements

Of course, Apple made much more improvements to the wearable. As C|Net notes, the device caters more to the sports and fitness markets now, in addition to "Pokemon Go" trainers.

The Apple Watch 2 is now swim proof (or waterproof to a depth of 50 meters), has a faster dual-core processor, improved graphics and a brighter display. Moreover, the GPS feature now notes the distance taken, pace and speed whenever the wearer is walking, jogging or even biking. Furthermore, there is a new feature that can also track fitness measures while the wearer is swimming.

Officially, the new wearable is called the Apple Watch Series 2.
