Overwatch Tip: How to Achieve The Highest Rank By Losing All Matches

An Overwatch player managed to get a very high rating despite virtually losing every match. Players can also achieve the same or even higher rankings before Blizzard steps in.

Overwatch Skill Rating Glitch?

A Korean Overwatch player, IzA managed to achieve the number one rank despite incurring more than 200 loses and less than ten wins in his matches, according to Kotaku. The Overwatch rating can be viewed here. Blizzard has changed the Skill Rating (SR) system in season 2. Overwatch player skills are now measured from 1 to 5,000 compared to last season's range of 1 to 100.

How to Get High Overwatch Rank by Losing

The loose-all-matches to get high ranking scenario starts something like this. First, player must lose all of his matches. Depending on the player's rank, that could take a while and hundreds of matches. Since this is a team match, losing on purpose could get player in trouble with other team mates.

Once player manages to get the bottom zero rank, Blizzard will award the biggest loser with a 5,000 skill rating. It seems impossible but it does seem to be happening right now. One possible explanation for this is a flaw in Blizzard's Skill Rating algorithm.

Overwatch Players & Blizzard Reaction

Overwatch players who are aware of the glitch speculate that it may have been cause by an "integer underflow". This is still speculation at this point. Overwatch developer Blizzard Entertainment has yet to respond to the Skill Ranking glitch.

However, if more Overwatch players lose on purpose to achieve a higher rank, Blizzard would have to step in. The developer has several options in dealing with the situation. One option is to fix the Overwatch skill rating algorithm. Blizzard could also opt to ban the player which may require some sort of evidence to justify the ban.
