Nintendo 3DS XL Arriving On August 19

Nintendo has confirmed that the XL-sized Nintendo 3DS will be coming to North America this summer.

According to Reggie Fils-Aime, president of Nintendo of America, during a Nintendo Direct presentation, August 19 is the launch date for the Nintendo 3DS. The new system will also hit the same day as does that 3DS game “New Super Mario Bros. 2.”

The 3DS XL will arrive with a new 4.88 inch stereoscopic 3D display screen, which is a massive increase from the 3.53 inch screen in the current Nintendo 3DS model. The system's secondary display, the touch screen, will also see a size increase from 3 inches to 4.18 inches.

The new system will also have extended battery life. According to Nintendo estimation, the 3DS XL will offer 3.5 to 6.5 hours of play time with 3DS titles, six to ten hours when playing DS titles.

The Nintendo 3DS XL will be priced at $199.99 and will include a 4GB memory card. In Europe, however, the Nintendo 3DS XL will start shipping on July 28 alongside the launch of the new title, “Art Academy.”

While in North America, the system will come in two color variations, blue and red, the European players will also have the option to purchase a silver 3DS XL, according to a Verge report.
