Pokemon Go players are still getting acquainted with the new Buddy system. Here are some tips on how to bond with Pikachu and how to make swaps with your Pokemon Buddy.
How to Select Pokemon Go Buddy
To select a Pokemon Buddy, player can find the Buddy option at the lower right corner screen included in the Journal and Customize options. Once player have selected a Pokemon Buddy, the screen will show the distance walked and how much further is required to get a candy.

How to Make Pikachu Sit On Shoulder
Pokemon Go player, ReBootYourMind discovered that simply walking with Pokemon Pikachu for 10 kilometers is not enough to make him a shoulder Buddy. Pikachu will need to find at least 10 Candies during the walk. Fortunately, each kilometer walked entitles Pikachu to one candy.
Pokemon Go Buddy Swap Doesn't Reset Total Distance Walked
Reddit user Bioreactivist claimed that switching Pokemon Buddy will not affect the total distance walked. Instead only the distance to next candy will be reset. For example, player walked a Pikachu for 5 kilometers then swap with a Bulbasaur during the walk. If players swap to Pikachu again, they will see that Pikachu's distance walked remain at 5 kilometers.
