Google Presents Email With A Better View Through Gmail's Responsive Design

Gmail will soon allow smartphone users to have a better view of their emails, fitting them to the screens of mobile devices as Google begins to support responsive web design.

Google has confirmed the news that Gmail and Inbox by Gmail apps will be updated later this month. The updated version of the email app will soon enable the email content to adapt to different smartphones, regardless their screen size.

"Starting later this month, Gmail and Inbox by Gmail will support emails created with responsive design, meaning their content adapts to fit screens of all sizes," wrote Google on its official Gmail blog. "Texts, links, and even buttons will enlarge to make reading and tapping easier on a smaller screen."

With that said, emails will arrive with smartphone users in a better viewing angle as Google begins rolling out its support for the so-called "responsive web design" in Gmail and Inbox by Gmail. The big advantage seen to this is that it will allow the developers to build better looking email that's easier for recipients to view and interact with, no matter what device they're using.

Following the responsive email design, layouts of emails will then be optimized for different mobile devices. The buttons and links will also be made large enough to hit on the phone, and the web and email content will be spaced more appropriately. Reports also confirmed that the responsive email design will not be making email better on phones alone but will also bring improvements on desktops reading emails formatted through mobile. With this, mobile-created emails are said to also look better on a large display.

"These changes will make your email experience as comfortable and intuitive as possible," Gmail's product manager, Piere Vollucci, wrote in a blog post. "And as responsive design becomes more common, you'll continue to see emails that fit better on all your screens and devices."

However, this change only applies to emails with proper CSS media queries in their design. Help documents were prepared by Google to help email designers familiarize themselves with the system. This update to the Gmail app will roll out later this month, with the exact schedule yet to be announced.
