"Suicide Squad", which had its fair share of criticism, might be getting a sequel and a spin-off as well. That's right! The controversial super villain themed film will continue to make a buzz in the big screen.
With a whopping $700 million at worldwide box office, "Suicide Squad" is pretty much eligible for a sequel despite criticisms. From being described by Vanity Fair as "a tired image, a stale and meaningless stab at grandeur" to IndieWire's claim as "mind-bogglingly stupid," the movie still managed to draw enough viewers to call it a success.
During the "Suicide Squad" panel at the Rose City Comic Con, actress Karen Fukuhara hinted on the possibility of reprising her role when the opportunity comes.
Fukuhara suggested that her role, Katana, could be a good subject in case a sequel takes place. She added that it will be interesting to see how Katana handles her relationship with Soultaker, her sword, her deceased husband as well as her past. The actress also expressed her admiration towards Margot Robbie's portrayal of Harley Quinn.
Speaking of Harley Quinn, the mulit-colored hair villain is getting a spin-off. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that actress Margot Robbie who "lived and breathed" Harley Quinn would be starring and co-producing the upcoming all-female heroes and villains movie. Aside from Harley Quinn, the said film is said to feature Bat Girl, the Birds of Prey.
Robbie is not new in producing a movie. In fact, the 26-year-old actress had some experience in production through her company LuckyChap Entertainment. The said company is currently in post-production on its first movie, a neo noir thriller "Terminal"
Aside from the "Suicide Squad" spin-off for her character Harley Quinn, Robbie will also set to star in an adaptation of Dean N. Jensen's "Queen of the Air".
As of this writing, no confirmed release date has been made for "Suicide Squad" sequel and Harley Quinn spin-off.
