'Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D,' 'Doctor Strange' Crossover Confirmed; Who Will Be The Link?

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is known for its crossovers with movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe like "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron." Now that Benedict Cumberbatch's "Doctor Strange" is coming to theaters and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" Season 4 is making its premiere, ABC has announced a tie-in between the two.

According to Executive Producer Jed Whedon, the crossover won't be as explicit as the previous ones. "Our ties are at times very direct and at times are more thematic," Whedon told Entertainment Weekly. "The tie this year will feel more of a reflection of the movie, less an interweaving plot. As that movie hits the world, it comes at the right time in our show, and you will see some of those same ideas being explored."

But how will the two different worlds be linked? Well, it's a question of "who?" Recently "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" Season 4 announced the addition of the character, Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna) in its line-up and it seems like it's no coincidence that it was followed by the announcement of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," "Doctor Strange" crossover.

Enzstars reported that Ghost Rider has a very strong connection to the supernatural, much like "Doctor Strange" which introduces magic for the first time in Marvel Universe.

"Doctor Strange will introduce some new ideas, but we're starting to lay the first brick in the yellow brick road to that," Whedon said. "We want to slowly play with the morality of building these things, whether or not we even should and the scientific questions that come along with it. [That's] the first step that we explore before we inevitably get into other things."

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" Season 4 will air on ABC on Sept. 20 at 10 p.m. while "Doctor Strange" will premiere on October 26.
