When customers started to report about their Galaxy Note 7 units exploding, the public started to question the company's integrity. Despite its long-running history in the smartphone market, customers began to question just how safe they were with a handheld in their possession. But the Korean tech giant's quick actions certainly helped diminish more negative press. Now, just weeks after the heartbreaking first report, Samsung is already replacing the originally released units.
Replacement Units
According to Android Headlines, US customers have already begun receiving their replacement Galaxy Note 7 units. The safer phones have started to appear on Best Buy and emails have been sent out to notify existing owners of the same. However, the replacement units will be more widely available come September 21, which is the date that Samsung originally gave.
Best Buy Protocol
If the defective unit was initially purchased at Best Buy, individuals will need to head over to a franchise as soon as possible. This is because the store is providing new Galaxy Note 7 units on a first-come-first-serve basis. It is the same for customers who pre-ordered a new unit.
However, not all Best Buy fronts have been provided with new replacement units. It is best to check first before rushing to a store.
How Samsung Started To Turn Things Around
No matter how the story is spun, the exploding Galaxy Note 7 handhelds have negatively affected the company's standing. Even the most loyal customer would have some sort of doubt in purchasing a Samsung unit now.
As Kim Sang-Jo, economics professor at Hansung University in Seoul said, "Now comes the hard part of restoring confidence of consumers and investors... How they go from here will define Samsung. It's all up to how they deal with it."
However, as Bloomberg notes, Samsung did right by taking the help of US government agencies, particularly, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). In doing so, the general public was able to rely on government action, such as banning the use and sale of the Galaxy Note 7.
