Microsoft, as promised earlier, has delivered a host of changes to the upcoming Release to Manufacturing (RTM) version of Windows 8. Among other changes, while Aero was killed off by the company, it was also revealed that there would be further changes to the final version of Windows 8. And one such change, according to Win8china, is that in some of the latest builds, Windows Explorer has been renamed to File Explorer.
Although it is a fairly minor change, the functionality of the feature remains the same. At one point of time, the company used the File Manager name for an application in early versions of Windows that allowed users to create and manage files and directories.
Later, Windows Explorer replaced this functionality in Windows 95, and Microsoft also introduced its Start menu and Start button in 1995.
But now, with the removal of the Start button and menu from Windows 8, (partially because of the fact that people stopped using it), it's more than obvious that Microsoft is willing to do whatever it takes to freshen up its operating system.
Experts and fans still expect to see further changes ahead of the RTM, which is uncertainly scheduled for late July.
A final copy of Windows 8 is expected to arrive in stores in mid-October.
