While a lot of reports are flowing in about the upcoming Nintendo Wii U console, it is expected that more will soon follow in the following months. As of now, all we know is that the device will be shipped with an IBM Power-based multi-core processor, AMD Radeon-based graphics, internal flash memory, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, an optical drive, and other features.
What we still don’t know is how much the console will cost. However, according to Nintendo, we needn't worry about the upcoming Wii U being overpriced.
In a recent interview with a Japanese newspaper, according to a Hot Hardware report, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata said Nintendo will price the new console carefully after the backlash it received with its 3DS console.
"We won't make the same mistake we did with the 3DS, which was considered relatively high by consumers," Iwata said.
Nintendo previously launched its 3DS handheld console at $250. However, the price, at that point of time, proved too expensive for gamers. The company later realized where it had gone wrong and, in no time, dropped its price to a more reasonable $170.
The Wii U is a tablet-style gamepad which is combined with built-in social networking features, and according to Iwata, "it's like no other system before it."
We believe that as long as the company manages to keep down the console’s price to a more affordable number, the Wii U will have a shot at being successful.
