'Clash Royale' News: How The Card Battle Game Won The Top Spot Over 'Pokemon GO'

Niantic's Pokemon GO had a very grand opening day with people around the world clamoring to take hold of it. However, its reign seems short-lived as Clash Royale crushed it and pushed it to the Number 2 spot in the App Store.

Clash Royale's victory goes to show that the free-to-play card battle can win over the new augmented reality technology. After 74 uninterrupted days to be exact, Pokemon GO finally bowed down and gave way to Clash Royale. If this is a real-life battle, both contenders can give viewers a hair-raising and over-the-edge fight. But why did Pokemon GO's stellar start sizzle?

One of the primary reasons why Pokemon GO lost is that Niantic was rather unclear about the updates. Yes, it had a good start but two months after its launch, no significant updates have been made. There was one, but it was purely aesthetic in nature and not the update fans are waiting for.

One of the reasons why Pokemon gained worldwide fame was it allows players to train monsters, trade them, and battle with friends. Yet none of these elements were found in Pokemon GO. Augmented reality seemed cool at a time, but it was not enough to sustain the interest of its fans. Soon, it became boring to catch and run after monsters.

Clash Royale, on the other hand, made a big update just recently and added a new tournament mode and all new playing cards, elements which attract players to continue going back to this seven-month-old game.

Pokemon GO's reign is quite impressive, yet not that phenomenal when compared to other hit games in the App Store. Overall, it comes third as one of the all-time top grossing games after Clash of Clans, which has 347 days, and Candy Crush Saga, which enjoyed 109 days in the App Store.
