Overwatch is a first person shooter team-based game that offers quite a number of interesting characters that includes a lot of amazing and fun abilities. The downside with this kind of game however, is that there will be less popular characters that won't be picked quite as often as the others. The title for the least-played character in Overwatch is currently held by Symmetra, and that's why the director of the game Jeff Kaplan says she's getting a buff this coming November.
Why Symmetra Is The Least-Played Overwatch Character
Since the game's launch earlier this year, changes have been rolling out for some of Overwatch's characters like Mercy and Zenyatta. Symmetra however, have been consistently at the bottom of the favorites.
According to a recent interivew with Business Insider, Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan revealed Symmetra doesn't get picked as much as the rest of the charaters as interesting as she is. This is due to her very specific abilities that make her situational. Kaplan said on the interview, "She's one of our least-played heroes, [but] you have to read the stats with a little grain of salt there: She's a hero who's very situational and she actually gets played a fair bit, but she gets switched off of. What happens commonly is players will play her on defense on the first part of a point, and then when they've lost that point, then they'll switch off of Symmetra. So, that definitely impacts her play time when you're looking at the stats."
Jeff Kaplan seemed to think that Symmetra gets switched off often because sometimes players who try to use Symmetra gets frustrated, eventually replacing her with a much more user-friendly and versatile character. Kaplan also added that although Symmetra is a charcter they wish to make changes to, these changes won't see the light of day until November since they plan on doing a lot of internal testing with the said character as Symmetra requires a lot more of it unlike the previous incremental changes they made on Junkrat.
