The upcoming Marvel movie "Doctor Strange," the studio's 14th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is a few months away and the anticipation for the movie keeps on building up.
A backstory has been recently reported revealing the amount of effort Marvel Studios exerted to get lead star Benedict Cumberbatch to play the role. The story is said to escalate the excitement of Marvel fans to see the film.
Marvel Dead Set To Cast Benedict Cumberbatch
Cumberbatch recently revealed in an interview with Empire Magazine that the Disney-owned studio was so dead set in choosing him to play as Doctor Strange that the entertainment company delayed the filming of the entire movie just to make sure he will take the role.
"I really did think I had to kiss it goodbye," Cumberbatch said.
Reports said that Cumberbatch sadly turned down Marvel when he was first offered the role of "Doctor Strange" due to an earlier commitment to star in a London theater production.
Cumberbatch told Marvel Director Scott Derrickson that it was not possible for him because he had already given his word to play a part in "Hamlet."
Marvel has been known for its sharp casting abilities, having chosen Robert Downey Jr. as "Iron Man" and Chris Evans as "Captain America." Fans and critics have agreed the two men were the right actors for their roles.
Marvel apparently strongly believed that Cumberbatch is the perfect fit for Doctor Strange that the top management pushed the film's production from summer 2016 to fall 2016 to give the actor ample time to finish his prior commitment.
"If you can't jump on board when the ride's going past, that's usually it. So the hugest compliment they paid me was to come back to me. It motivated me to try to fulfill their faith in me," Cumberbatch said.
New "Doctor Strange" Promo Images Revealed
To further excite fans who are waiting for the "Sorcerer Supreme" to arrive in theaters, two new images from the movie have been made public.
The photographs include Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer which is speculated to be Strange's love interest in the film.
There were images too of Mads Mikkelsen as "Kaecilius" who is the film's lead antagonist. Fans also got to see Cumberbatch and McAdams smiling and talking inside a hospital.
Directed by Scott Derrickson and written by C. Robert Cargill, the film is rumored to be a bridge for Marvel's "Infinity Wars."
For fans new in the MCU, Dr. Stephen Strange is a former world class surgeon who went to a high mountain in Tibet to learn magic from the "Ancient One." Strange had a career-ending car accident which crippled his hands, destroying his life and profession as a surgeon.
"Doctor Strange" casts its enchantments in theaters on Nov. 4.
