Google's new laptop, dubbed the Pixel 3, is set to debut in 2017. But people have been talking more about its hybrid operating system. The Google Pixel 3 is expected to run Andromeda OS, a rumored mixture of Chrome OS and Android.
The Pixel 3 And Andromeda OS
According to Gospel Herald, the Android Police has cited two independent and reliable sources revealing that the Pixel 3 is internally known as Bison. The sources also disclosed that the new laptop will be launched in the third quarter of 2017.
The collaboration of teams from Android and Chrome OS has been going on for several years. Apparently, the work on the new laptop and the hybrid OS have been kept under wraps. The Android Police reports that it's only now that bits of info are surfacing.
The Andromeda OS will merge Chrome features into Android. Android apps will be brought to Chromebooks. However, Pixel 3 will not be marketed as a Chromebook. The Android Police explains that the hybrid OS is definitely a more ambitious initiative.
Specs And Other Details
Android Police described the Pixel 3 laptop as an ultra-thin laptop with a 12.3-inch display. It's possible that it will have a detachable keyboard design. The report also states that Google might implement a tablet-mode in the device. However, it's unclear how this will be achieved.
The Pixel 3 might be equipped with an Intel M3 or i5 processor with 8-16 GB of RAM. It should also have a storage of up to 128 GB. There could be a fingerprint scanner, two USB Type-C ports, a 3.5mm headphone jack, built-in sensors, stylus support, four microphones and stereo speakers.
It is estimated to have a 10-hour battery life. It may feature a glass trackpad with Haptic feedback engine and a backlit keyboard.
According to Know Your Mobile, the Pixel 3 might be pretty expensive based on the specs and features mentioned. However, the price for the Google Chromebook Pixel 3 is rumored to be at $799.
