iPhone 7 Plus Explodes While In Transit: Isolated Incident?

In the smartphone market, some handhelds will mirror others almost to the smallest detail. It is definitely not a rare occasion that one company will take cues from another in terms of specifications and design. However, the recent explosions surrounding Samsung's products have raised safety concerns all over the world. Until now, it was isolated to the items from the Korean tech giant. However, a new report is showing that the iPhone 7 is also capable of the same.

The iPhone 7 Plus Explosion

A Reddit user by the name of kroopthesnoop recently posted a photo of an iPhone 7 Plus unit, which has undoubtedly exploded. According to the thread, the explosion happened during transit, as the handheld had already exploded during box opening.

At this point, the reported incident is the only one of its kind from iPhone 7 unit users. Therefore, an actual conclusion as to why the unit exploded cannot be reached yet. In fact, Reddit users even questioned the authenticity of the post. Still, there were others that offered their own explanations.

Another Lithium Ion Battery Issue

Apple's battery is a lithium ion battery, much like the one that caused Samsung's units to explode. The only evident difference is that Samsung's batteries packed in more power. Nevertheless, plenty of Reddit users still reasoned this out for the iPhone 7 Plus explosion.

To be more specific, users have come to the general conclusion that a hard object punctured the device enough to hit the battery and cause it to erupt.

Apple's Fast Action

Updates to the threat showed that an Account Executive from Apple contacted the owner of the damaged device. The same executive will work closely with AT&T in order to provide a replacement phone. But while the parties advised that actions were being expedited, they failed to provide a more specific timeline.

From the looks of the threat, Apple has also failed to provide a reason or explanation for the explosion.
