New Approaches to Breast Cancer are More Advanced and More Efficient

Breast Cancer is one of the leading killer diseases among women. Now, with an improved medical technology, surgeons and oncologists have discovered new ways to stop cancer cells and to remove cancer permanently.

Surgical Procedure Against Breast Cancer

According to Dr. Beth Nickels, a surgeon with SWAT Surgical Associates, she's been using SAVI Scout Breast Localization and Surgical Guidance System since January. Cianna Medical explained SAVI Scout uses a radar technology that is placed in the tissue seven days before the surgery.

"The device is specially made for me to utilize in surgery to reduce the amount of breast tissue incised. It's more specific [in detecting] where the abnormal or cancerous cells are. The device causes less pain." As Nickels explained to Lubbock Online.

SAVI Scout uses a needle to put the reflector inside the breast. In this way, the targeted tissues will be implanted and the healthy tissues will be disregarded.

Proton Therapy Is More Effective Than Chemo Therapy

Proton Therapy, also known as proton beam therapy, is offered not only at Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, but there are other centers across the United States that offer this type of treatment.

"Over the past 20 years, there's been innovations in three areas - technology, imaging, and computer software - so we finally have the technology to deliver the protons to where they need to go." said Dr. Brian Chon, medical director at ProCure Proton Therapy Center in Somerset, New Jersey.

Proton therapy is like a typical radiation but instead of using X-rays, the therapy uses a typical beam with protons. Protons are positively charged particles that if put at a high energy, will eventually kill cancer cells. Proton therapy is a more précised treatment against any type of cancer.

Currently, proton therapy is the latest innovation and approach for cancer treatment according to News Max.
