The Kickstarter-funded Pebble smartwatch will miss the shipping date which was scheduled in September, reveals a latest report.
The makers of the smartwatch have regularly been posting their updates, release dates and more. In their latest post, the company informs that it will be adding a new glossy orange color option in the product line and will not be able to meet the scheduled shipping date due to its inability to meet the overwhelming demand created for the Pebble smartwatch. Previously, the company was supposed to ship 1,000 watches in September. The demand, since then, has shot up to 85,000 Pebbles.
The Pebble team, however, is on track to "go from manufacturing zero to 15,000 Pebbles per week as soon as possible".
The company provided customers with the following statement.
"In terms of our schedule, we're sticking pretty closely to an aggressive timetable we put together at the end of May. While we won't be able to start shipping Pebbles in September, our current schedule has us on track to go from manufacturing zero to 15,000 Pebbles per week as soon as possible."
According to the current blog post, the much-awaited smartwatch is undergoing the Engineering Verification stage in Taipei. CEO Eric Migicovsky notes that during this phase "the factory produced samples of the entire product. We're currently evaluating each individual component (case, lens, circuit board, charge cable, etc) and we'll tweak the design as necessary. The design needs to be nearly perfect before we move into a phase called 'tooling' during which the factory creates hardened steel tools for injection molding Pebble's plastic components."
The Pebble watch will be assembled in China.
