To be, or not to be, that is the question; and if a recent report is to be believed - to be is the answer to the million-dollar question that is presently occupying iFans' minds. What are we talking about you wonder? Well, the next-gen Apple smartphone of course, which may be named iPhone 5 after all!
TechCrunch claims to have been sent a screenshot from a tipster, that shows an iPhone 5 prototype appeared on the "reliable" source's server logs. The screenshot is an indication that a working device is possibly being tested. The rabble-rousing screenshot is given below.
What's more, according to the tipster, Apple is supposedly testing not one but two models! The source managed to capture a screen grab of a server log, which listed a model called "iPhone5,2" that exists along with "iPhone5,1". The source did not disclose any other information.
Tech pundits and iFans aver that the device pegged as "iPhone5,2" may be a code name for the next-gen Apple iPhone. That said, it's impossible to ascertain if Apple was indeed behind the purported testing.
Judging by the past, leaks of yet-to-be released Apple products is not uncommon. Earlier in March this year, prior to the iPad launch, employees at the tech website Ars Techina discovered hundreds of visits from a device with a rare screen resolution of 2048 x 1536. That was the exact resolution of the new iPad's Retina display.
According to rumors, the 4-inch iPhone 5 is all set to debut on Sept. 12 along with the iPad Mini and the new iPod Nano. The new iPhone is actually the sixth handset from the Cupertino tech giant, making the name iPhone 5 a tad confusing. The current iPhone 4S is the fifth iteration.
With rumors and leaks galore, the iPhone 5 has been privy to much speculation and scrutinization - including its name. As Shakespeare wisely said "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet". Come September, we will get to know if Apple's next iPhone offering is indeed called the iPhone 5.
