It seems that Samsung's phablet - Galaxy Note - has made quite an impression in the market as every other smartphone manufacturer is now attempting to come up with the same unique, almost tablet-sized smartphone. According to a recent report, after LG Electronics (Vu and Vega smartphone) and Chinese phone maker Coolpad (dual-SIM 9930 and 9900), the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC is all set to release a 5-inch Android smartphone this fall.
Boy Genius was the first to report the HTC phablet rumor in April this year. Now, DigiTimes claims that HTC is indeed in the process of entering the 5-inch smartphone segment.
The Taiwanese newspaper, which is known for its dubious record, stated that the latest HTC smartphone will feature a whopping 1080 x 1794 pixel with 1080p resolution. Moreover, the phone is expected to release in September or October. Per earlier reports, the massive HD HTC superphone will sport a Scribe stylus support, a quad-core Krait CPU, along with an Adreno 320 graphics processor.
Meanwhile, Samsung is all set to extend its phablet family by launching the Galaxy Note 2 smartphone on Aug. 29. The phone, if rumors are to be believed, will tout a 5.5-inch body with a high resolution Super AMOLED variety. The phone may come with higher WSXGA+ resolution (1680 x 1050 pixels) with 360ppi pixel density. The next-generation phablet is also expected to feature a better and more powerful quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, Android's latest Jelly Bean operating system, 4G connectivity as standard for all international units, an improved battery, and a 12 megapixel primary camera with an enhanced sensor.
Not only Samsung, but Apple too is also believed to be releasing the next-generation iPhone on September 12. According to various rumors, the latest iPhone will sport a bigger screen, Quantum Dot LED curved glass with 16:9 Aspect Ratio display and 1,136x640 resolution, 367ppi pixel density, iOS 6.0, A6 or "a variation of the A5X's S5L8945X architecture" processor, 1GB RAM, a bigger battery, and will support 4G or LTE network.
HTC, meanwhile, had quite an uninteresting year as far as sales and market share are concerned. The company reported a massive decline in profit and revenue in Q2. The company's quarterly revenue was $3.04 billion U.S., 26.8 percent down from the previous year. Both gross and operating margins have also declined 25 percent and 7 percent, respectively. Now with the launch of a phablet smartphone, can the Taiwanese company change its present situation? Let us know what you think.
