Red Dead Revolver, not Redemption (so hold your horses), was Rockstar's first incursion into the Western scene. In fact, it was the foundation for Red Dead Redemption's game concept which was a huge video game hit in the list of the studio's awesome games. Revolver, although not as much as a phenomenon as its predecessor, still takes you in an enjoyable adventure in the good ol' West. It is important to note that this was launched six years before Redemption which, if you count right, would be 2004.
Aside from the Western feel of the game, Red Dead Revolver is also an action-adventure set in third person perspective. It was developed by Rockstar San Diego and published via Rockstar Games, then distributed by Take-Two Interactive. The game runs, or ran rather, on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Revolver is technically the first game in the Red Dead series.
Revolver got its elements from the 1985 NES classic, Gun Smoke. It was supposedly to be published by Capcom but the project was put into hiatus until Rockstar San Diego start picking up development in 2002. The game replicates 'grainy' films and borrows music from a bunch of Spaghetti Western films including the one did by Ennio Morricone.
Today, you can relive those glorious PS2 and Xbox days via the PlayStation 4. For those who missed it back then, now is also your chance to experience Red Dead Revolver. Rockstar has made known to all that the game is now available for download at the PlayStation Store, cost would be $14.99, with a promised full 1080p visuals. In addition, modern features are added like Shareplay, Activity feeds, 2nd Screen support, and trophies, as reported by We Got This Covered.
How about Red Dead Redemption 2?
People are still waiting for Red Dead Redemption 2, rumors and leaks now surface on the internet suggesting that it will certainly have an official reveal anytime soon. Unfortunately for excited fans, Rockstar has been doing a good job on zipping their mouths when it comes to details about the sequel. Even GTA 6 has no official information yet. Here's a gameplay for the PS4 version of Red Dead Revolver:
