Google Billed A 12-Year-Old Spanish Boy $112, 000

A 12-year old boy from Spain accidentally racked up €100,000, or about $112,000, from Google for advertising his brass band in an effort to make a great impact online. Google, however, was quick to waive the huge amount billed after realizing that it was just a costly mistake.

Jose Javier, a trumpet in a band called Los Salerosos, signed up for AdWords instead of AdSense. Google Adwords is an online advertising service that enables advertisers to display their brands as a part of a page. On the other hand, AdSense allows people to make money from advertisements on their page.

Jose was under the impression that he would earn his band money if people clicked on the link to his homemade website, but the service works the other way around. The musician kid exchanges the use of the two Google platforms, AdWords and AdSense.

While signing up for an account, Jose provided his banking details especially his credit card information. Note that it was charge every time someone clicked the link of his site, according to the BBC.

What Is The Action Of Google

"It was all a mistake and that he did it without thinking", a Google spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

"A 12-year-old boy doesn't want to start spending €100,000."

That amount would take a lot of allowance money to pay off, but thankfully for Javier, Google was forgiving and cancelled the bill.

Inma Quesada, Jose's mother was interviewed by a local Spanish newspaper called El Pais and explained that her son just "wanted to buy instruments" for his band Los Salerosos. Jose's parents only realized what was going on when the bank called them to let them know about the charges.
