Konami Digital Entertainment has announced that it will release its upcoming action title “Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance” in North and South America on Feb. 19, 2013.
Platinum Games is currently developing "Revengeance", which is an interquel set between the events of “Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty” and “Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots”, following Raiden's transformation into a cyborg. Kojima Productions is producing it as part of the “Metal Gear” series, which will be released for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 consoles. Although, Konami Productions originally planned for a Microsoft Windows version, it was rumored to have been canceled in Dec. 2011.
“Revengeance” is strictly an action game and focuses on swordfighting and a sophisticated cutting system. The game's cutting-edge system will allow players to engage in third-person melee combats, as well as precisely slash enemies and objects "at will" along a geometrical plane using a "free slicing" mode.
“Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance” is set to take place nine years after “Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots” and is not a part of the main “Metal Gear Solid” series. The story follows Raiden who PMC contracts for multiple tasks such as the training of armies and VIP Protection in an unknown country that is recovering from a previous civil war.
Developers stated that while Raiden "has grown up" when compared to previous Metal Gear game versions, he is still in conflict with his life as a child soldier in a past civil war, leading him to be a "dark hero".Trailers have also shown Raiden discussing Bushido while demonstrating a sadistic attitude.
Raiden first appeared in “Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty.” The game had Solid Snake as a decoy protagonist for the first couple of hours of the game and later switched the focus to Raiden for the rest of the game. Raiden was said to be widely hated for being an awfully whiny character, as compared to the very extreme Solid Snake, the main protagonist of the series.
