100 Billion Steps Prove That Pokemon Go Promotes Health

Pokemon Go players are a hardworking bunch. No doubt about it as aside from having to capture Pokemon in the wild to fill the Pokedex, they also have to walk several distances with their Buddy Pokemon which in turn will hatch eggs. Now, it has just been reported that Pokemon Go is not only beneficial for the trainers' happiness value (who wouldn't be happy evolving a Dratini into Dragonair?) but also to the player's health.

Pokemon Go Good For Health

Pokemon Go is seen to improve the player's health and life expectancy. Who would expect a mobile game to have such awesome effects to the body? For the most part, Pokemon Go is an augmented reality game which requires players to get out in the real world which is why it is not really surprising for Pokemon Go to be dubbed as the "most successful game to date when it comes to improving health and quality of life for its players".

Pokemon Go Study

A study was conducted to 1,500 Pokemon Go players with the help of the Microsoft Band fitness tracker around July and August. The average participant of the Pokemon Go study was 33 years old, 36.5 of them were overweight, and 28.2 of the participants were obese. The BMI was said to closely resemble the national average in US. Though the sample was considered to be very small, the results of the study showed that after playing Pokemon Go, the participants were able to increase their activity to 7,229 daily steps. This means that it is about 13 percent higher than the control population.

Pokemon Go Players Win

Did you know that a person should walk five miles? That is around 10,000 steps daily. Coming from the American Heart Association, this health tip is definitely one of the many things every person should be doing.

According to Tim Althoff, lead researcher of the Pokemon Go health study, telling Polygon, ""I find the life expectancy analysis intriguing because it highlights the massive impact that games like Pokémon GO could have on public health, the fact that an app could have a measurable impact on US-wide life expectancy... However, the analysis is based on the assumption that Pokémon GO would be able to sustain the high levels of engagement. This is certainly their goal but our analyses also highlight that this is their main challenge."

So if you're one of the players who have left Pokemon Go, it's not too late to get back on the game! Besides, new features have been keeping the game a whole lot more interesting and more new features are coming our way. So, walk with your Buddy Pokemon now!
