Google to Launch a 3G-Enabled Nexus 7 Within Six Weeks?

Despite a super-fast quad-core processor and a high resolution display, which propelled the Asus co-branded Google Nexus 7 to easily climb the success ladder, a missing 3G connectivity remained the tablet's biggest drawback. However, recent reports indicate that the Nexus 7's lack of 3G connectivity is set to become a thing of the past.

According to MoDaCo's Paul O'Brien, Google is soon going to change the game in the tablet space as Asus is preparing a new 3G-enabled Nexus model. O'Brien, a well-known tech blogger in the mobile industry and respected for his solid track record, has cited a "very well-placed source," and reported that the new variant will be launched in "around six weeks" and the production of the model is already underway.

"I love my Nexus 7, but I really wish there was a 3G version. Well, according to our very well placed insider - my wish is about to be answered! There's not a huge amount to say... a 3G version of the Nexus 7 is coming, with no other hardware changes. Asus is currently ramping production in preparation for launch in around 6 weeks, with the exact launch date and territories still to be confirmed," stated O'Brien in a post.

The Nexus 7 tablet was released at Google's I/O conference in June. Since then, the tablet has sold well. According to analysts' predictions in July, the search engine giant could sell up to 8 million units by the end of 2012, more than double the number Google predicted.

If the report can be given any credence, Google will launch the refurbished version of Nexus 7 tablet at a time when rivals like Apple and Amazon are expected to launch the iPad Mini next-gen Kindle Fire tablets, respectively. While the tablet honchos will lock horns in the coming days, tablet users should gear up to enjoy the best products that will soon be on offer.
