HTC Announces Press Event on Sept. 19, Phablet or Windows Phone to Get Released?

It seems that all the big names in the smartphone industry have suddenly geared up for press events and are on a product launch spree. While Nokia and Microsoft are holding a joint press event on Sept. 5, Apple sent out invites for a Sept. 12 event where the company is expected to unveil its hotly-anticipated iPhone 5. Now, Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC is the latest to hop on to the press event and device launch bandwagon.

HTC's press event is slated to be held in New York City on Sept.19. The event will begin at 11:00 a.m. EST.

The HTC invite, which came minutes after Apple's invitation for the iPhone 5 unveiling, reads "Join HTC to see what's next". A graphic of a semi-circle at the bottom of the invite accompanies the text, indicating that the company may release its Windows Phone 8 smartphone.

Moreover, even after being one of the major partners of Microsoft's Windows Phone 8, HTC hasn't released any major Windows-based smartphone since the launch of Titan 2 in spring, By contrast, rival Samsung launched the world's first Windows Phone 8 - the ATIV S - at its IFA 2012 event. Nokia too is expected to take the wraps off its Windows Phone 8 smartphone at the Nokia World event today. Therefore, the launch of HTC's Windows Phone 8 smartphone at the Sept. 19 event is a distinct possibility.

Additionally, experts suggest that HTC may also reveal its first phablet. The rumored HTC phablet is expected to be a 5-inch device and will reportedly head to Verizon.
