LG Launches Optimus G with Voice Activated Camera App

In its ongoing attempt to catch up with Samsung and Apple in the smartphone competition, LG, on Sept. 18, unveiled a high-end smartphone - the Optimus G.

Packed with powerful and innovative hardware offering a unique User Experience (UX), LG's latest smartphone will let the users "live without boundaries."

"The Optimus G is a groundbreaking premium device not only in the history of LG but also in the smartphone industry," said Park Jone- seok, president of LG Electronics mobile communications division. "With the Optimus G, users will be able to experience unsurpassed UX features that will allow them to perform tasks that really enhance their daily lives."

Optimus G sports a 4.7-inch True HD IPS PLUS display at 1280 x 768 resolution, with a 15:9 aspect ratio. The latest LG smartphone runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with 2GB of RAM powers the device.

The Optimus G comes with 32GB on-board storage and packs in a 2100 mAh battery that gives up to 15 hours talk time, and 335 hours standby. The NFC-enabled smartphone features a powerful 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing one.

LG has also introduced some innovative technologies in the Optimus G camera. The list of new technology includes Smart Shutter to sense camera vibration or the movement of the subject and adjusts the shutter speed for the best shot and the Time Catch Shot lets users choose the best picture. However, the most fascinating feature is the Cheese Shutter feature, like that of the Galaxy S3, which lets user take photos easily with voice activation command.

LG Optimus G also packs in useful and interesting features like QSlide to put two screens on the display at once, Live zooming to watch videos up to five times closer, Dual Screen Dual play to mirror the smartphone to a TV and let the user watch different content on each at the same time, and QuickMemo to add notes to a screen shot and many more.

Analysts are pitching the LG Optimus G as the device that may turn around the company's fortunes.

"We think the new Optimus phone is more competitive than rivals at least in terms of hardware specifications. It will help LG see a V-shaped recovery in profits. Its handset business will see a big turnaround in the first quarter of next year,'' said Cho Sung-eun, an analyst at Samsung.

The Optimus G phone will hit the Korean shelves from next week and is expected to be rolled out in Japan and the U.S. in October and November, respectively.
