One of the biggest features in Apple's new iOS 6 is the new Maps app, which replaced the default, pre-loaded Google Maps. While Apple thought it would garner laurels with its new app, the company's decision has raised several eyebrows and is receiving severe criticism.
Apple's decision to oust Google Maps in favor of its own Maps app, experts opine, was primarily made to end its dependence on Google and emerge as a self-sufficient iOS provider. However, rumors are rife that Apple may have to alter its stance and trace its steps back to Google Map app within 24 months.
While Apple's version of Maps looks good and performs decently, reviewers are of the opinion that the app's problems are more than its Google counterpart.
Recently, an Apple spokesperson, in a bid to placate users, urged iFans to be patient and reminded them that the new app is in the nascent phase.
Spokeswoman Trudy Muller told AllThingsD "Customers around the world are upgrading to iOS 6 with over 200 new features including Apple Maps, our first map service."
Muller further added that "We are excited to offer this service with innovative new features like Flyover and Siri integration, and free turn by turn navigation. We launched this new map service knowing that it is a major initiative and we are just getting started with it. We are continuously improving it, and as Maps is a cloud-based solution, the more people use it, the better it will get. We're also working with developers to integrate some of the amazing transit apps in the App Store into iOS Maps. We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better."
