Sony's upcoming third person, action-adventure title "God of War: Ascension" is one of the highly-anticipated games of 2013. Per reports, the company has announced the Collector's Edition for the game.
The game is set to have as many as three editions called the Standard Edition, the Collector's Edition, and the Special Edition. The Special Edition will arrive with an 8-inch Kratos statue, a steelbook case, a special pass for future DLC, the Mythological Heroes Multiplayer Pack, the official game soundtrack in its digital form, a PS3 dynamic theme and PSN avatar, and a double XP bonus for the multiplayer.
Fans opting for Collector's Edition and Standard Edition, on the other hand, will get the Mythological Heroes Multiplayer Pack. The Mythological Heroes Multiplayer Pack will include several multiplayer characters including Perseus, Orion, Achilles, and Odysseus. Sony is expected to disclose more information on the packs on Oct. 15.
"God of War: Ascension" will be the first installment in the series to feature multiplayer and to be developed with Stereoscopic 3D. The game will also feature a revamped combat and weapon system and new gameplay mechanics.
"Vengeance is born in the fires of betrayal in this prequel to the best-selling God of War franchise. Six months have passed since Kratos stood over the bodies of his wife and child, his hands stained with their blood - tricked by Ares into murdering the only people he ever loved," the game's official page states. "Swearing to avenge them, Kratos broke the blood oath that bound him to Ares, but oaths to Olympus are not so easily broken..."
Kratos is now chained for eternity within a prison for the living damned. He now battles insanity at the hands of the Furies and is prepared to be tested as he seeks freedom, redemption for his sins, and the clarity to avenge his family.
The game will feature multiplayer for the first time in its history, and players can take the epic combat online with eight player objective-based combat. It is also possible to form an alliance with Zeus, Ares, Poseidon, or Hades and earn their Favor to unlock new customization options for the multiplayer Gladiator. New combat and puzzle mechanics have also been added.
The game is scheduled to be released on March 12, 2013 for PlayStation 3.
