Google Announces Android Event For Oct. 29

Google was previously rumored to host a Android event in October, and it seems like the rumor has turned out to be true. Per reports, Google is currently pushing out invitations for an upcoming Android event on Oct. 29 at 10AM in New York City.

The invitation, with a tagline "The playground is open," as expected, has been scheduled on the same day as Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 launch event. This launch date does not come as a surprise, following rival Apple's attempt to take some of the limelight away from the upcoming Surface tablets and Windows 8.

The burning question is what the event will bring. Speculations are rife that Google will take this opportunity to drop the price on the Nexus 7 to just $99, along with the eagerly-anticipated additional option of a 32GB Nexus 7.

Word's on the street that Google is also working with Samsung on designing a 10-inch Nexus tablet with some notable capabilities and features, but it is yet to be seen what the end product finally will be.

However, the rumor that is making the hottest headlines on the Internet is regarding the arrival and availability of Nexus smartphones. The two devices that are creating the maximum buzz are the LG Nexus 4 and the rumored Sony Nexus X, which, according to many, is a fake.

The rumors regarding the probable LG Nexus smartphones escalated in the past few weeks after the device was seen running stock Android, and was also based on the company's Optimus G hardware. Sony's Nexus device, on the other hand, was revealed and came into news via a few leaked images.

Other anticipated event revelations, per a Verge report, include Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates, with a few references to Google's brand new interface. However, it would be foolish to expect Android 4.2 - the next version of the OS - to be revealed at the event.

Considering the list of events: Apple on Oct. 23, Windows 8 on Oct. 26, Windows Phone 8 on Oct. 29, and now Google also scheduled for an event on the same date as that of Windows Phone 8; it is an early reminder as to how competitive the consumer market is becoming as the holiday season sets in.
